Short Answer: Yes, but don't apply eq and compression to the main buss out (on your master fader). That is, unless your going after some tonal aesthetics or want a certain effect out of your mix, all compression and equalization should be accomplished on each separate channel. Long Answer: You need to make sure all parts or individual tracks of your production mix are equalized & compressed properly . Parts or individual tracks are defined for example: a 16 track production mix or 16 individual parts like drums, bass, guitar, vocal, etc, mixed to two channel mono or stereo. It's not possible for us to equalize and compress individual tracks at the mastering stage. The reason is in that we deal with the resulting frequencies from the mix in mono or stereo .
Please, send or upload only the completed stereo mix down of each song you wish to have mastered (preferably stereo interleaved, no split stereo files).
Dithering and any other processors (except individual track effects within the mix just as explained above) should be left off with the highest peaks not exceeding -3dB (if possible, avoid meter clipping, please!).
Specifically, make sure not to use compression and/or apply peak limiting to the main mix output (the mix buss). This is why most mixes fail to obtain maximum benefits from our mastering process. Of course, you can always do this if you are looking into adding more color or distortion (as an effect) to your mix, but make sure you are happy with how your mix sounds before mastering. Do you like loud mixes? You can always make two mixes: one for you as loud as you want it to be and another one for our facility; low level and within our mastering requirements as described above. You can also send any mix you want, we will try to give you the best possible product from it. Guaranteed. There are 2 other options available at our site:
Option 1 - Mastering with Technical Assistance. This option we'll allow you to receive instructions to fix any mix issues found on your music (If any).
Option 2 - Mixing Music Online. This option is ideal for individuals that have a home studio, however, we can't work with every recording program made out there. Render the audio tracks as BWF files to facilitate the seamless exchange of sound data between different computer platforms and applications and to make sure that every file starts synchronized to the beginning of the recording (Even if the voice or instrument part only happens for 1 second in the song). This would prevent any synchronization issues. For more information on online mixing, click here.
